| The legendary status of The Ramones, New York Dolls, and Television is no accident. Their fundamental albums led to the creation of a subculture that continues to thrive. Rare, though, is the band that maintains the same
uncompromising and unrestrained attitude of these predecessors. On their self-titled debut album, The Visitors rocket through twelve tracks of the same classic, simple, and essential rock and roll that changed the course of music. Drummer Danny rocks both tight, fast, punk beats and slower, bluesy rhythms. Brian抯 bass playing is complex but understated; his and guitarist Bradley抯 vocals possess a wail that no punk rock band would be complete without. The Visitors?back-to-basics sound reminds us why the rock and roll revolution was so prosperous. The New York garage-punk trio recorded their first LP at Uncle Mitro抯 Studio (The Little Killers, The Demands) in the heart of Brooklyn. While it only took about a week in total, it was recorded in two sessions that were spaced out by six months over the past year. With the help of Uncle Mitro, the trio created a melodic album with a gritty finish, straight out of the 1970抯 punk scene, and complete with a cover of Roky Erickson抯 揑 Walked With a Zombie.?The Visitors is set to drop on February 13, 2007. Despite their distorted guitars and fast-paced tempos, The Visitors dip into unexpected genres: 揝top What You抮e Doing?is an updated rock-and-roll take on the 50抯 doo-wop theme of being reluctantly lovesick, with Bradley and Brian抯 double vocals taking us back to that simpler time. 揗y Unknown Love?shakes with Social Distortion-type guitar riffs, while Bradley抯 lyrics tell the story of an accident resulting in the loss of love, a la the 60抯 classic 揕ast Kiss? In the great punk tradition, Brian says, 揑 don抰 care about genres or trying to fit in. We just do what we do regardless of what anyone thinks, and when we write and perform we抮e as sincere as we can possibly be about it.?It抯 a sentiment that is followed through on The Visitors. On the album抯 opening track, he shouts, 揑抣l never be clean and civilized!?The gods of rock and roll woul |
